A downloadable game for Windows

THIS DEMO IS MAPPED FOR ANY GAMEPAD. Mouse and keyboard functionality not yet available! CONTROLS AT THE BOTTOM!

Hi and thanks for having a play with the latest iteration of my hack'n'slash project The Forgotten Forest!

I've taken a bunch of feedback from the last demo and there's now more content to play with with the core gameplay loop built around weapon pick ups and improvised weapons! In this demo, kill all the enemies in the bandit camp and collect the map! ANY feedback is as always greatly appreciated!

In the next iteration of the game I'll be looking to add mouse and keyboard functionality, quests and a hub village (Along side improvements, bug fixes, and more improvised weapons)

Improvements on enemy collisions! Hits feed more snappy with a slight blur effect on weapon swings! Strafe and lock on have first big update!

Thanks for playing

Be excellent to each other!

Jack & Bill and Ted

Controls are in the screen shots but also here!

Install instructions

extract and open the scream jam app file! (This game is a long evolving iteration of a past game jam)

It's a great start! Really enjoyed a lot of aspects of this... even got to the end! Woooooo!

Here's my top 3 bits of quick feedback:

  • Lock on: this feature is really jenky at the moment-- causes a lot of movement / control issues. Consider limiting the distance that you can lock on.
  • View: the camera feels a bit too close to the action-- in many cases, the enemies have detected you before they're even visible onscreen, which limits strategic thinking and an overall sense of the space. Also, because of the 3/4 view, enemies are sometimes entirely occluded by structures/props.
  • Combat: Feels like the first swing always misses, and connecting with an enemy (or being struck by one) doesn't really have that KAPOW feeling. Consider ways to tighten this up and make it rock!

Lots to like here-- good luck with development!
